Saturday’s memorable 3-2 victory over title contenders Steyning Town completed the four-from-four target at Victoria Park that Tony Vance had identified as his side’s major objective to start 2026. Throw in the big away win at Newhaven and they have a perfect record so far this year.
But the challenges keep coming thick and fast, starting at Bexhill United tonight, which will be the first of two away games in four days for GFC as they look to maintain their promotion push.
‘What I know is that we’ve got some away games coming up, of course, which are always a challenge,’ said Vance.
‘Then we’ve got Haywards Heath coming [here at the end of the month], so we’re going to have to be on the money to win that game. But, it’s something we’re capable of doing with the right group, so we’ll see.
‘I’m not going to go down the old cliche one game at a time because I don’t really bother about that. It’s clumping of games, and that’s why I said what I did – we’re home, we’ve got to take advantage of that and get those four wins, and we did.
‘So that’s one target that I wanted to achieve and we’ll have a look and see what the next one is.’
After coming off during the second half of Saturday’s match, both Ross Allen and Charlton Gauvain are fit to travel with the GFC squad today while Jacob Fallaize returns. Goalkeeper Josh Addison, who was sent off against Steyning Town, does not begin his suspension until the weekend.
However, the Green Lions will be without work-tied Tom Vaudin, Dave Merris and Ben Solway against eighth-placed Bexhill United. The two sides met in the FA Vase in August when the Green Lions won 4-1.
Yesterday’s Priaulx League game between Bels and St Martin’s was postponed. Tonight is the U21 Loveridge Cup final, North v Sylvans, at Victoria Park, 7.45pm kick off.
