Northerners closing in on Priaulx League title

Keene Domaille hit a hat-trick as Northerners cleared another obstacle in their quest to regain the Priaulx Cup on Tuesday night – and they could be celebrating their coronation at the weekend.

It was first against third at Northfield, but after the hosts had overcome their sluggish start, Rovers never looked like halting North’s winning streak in 2026 and the chocolate-and-blues won 4-0 to maintain their five-point lead at the top of the table ahead of St Martin’s, who were also victorious on home soil on Tuesday.

Charlie Le Prevost’s side took a few minutes to get into their stride, but as soon as the spring sun had set, they warmed to their task and they broke the deadline midway through the first half by which time Adam Bullock had already made a couple of saves.

The opening goal was straight off the training ground as, from a corner out on the left, Liam Mahon played the ball short to Harry Tough before receiving it straight back and delivering a deep cross to beyond the far post where Archie Drillot was unmarked to head it back to the waiting Domaille to turn it home from a couple of yards out.

North dominated the rest of the half and after having a couple of penalty appeals waved away, they doubled their lead in the 34th minute when Mason Prigent tried his luck with a shot through a crowd from outside of the area and although it was not cleanly struck, it was awkward enough to beat Bullock low to his right.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Drillot early in the second half presented Steffan Timms with an opportunity to get Rovers back in the game, but he dragged his shot wide and North were comfortable after that.

It took until the 81st minute for Domaille to get his second of the night and in came in similar fashion to his first, but this time Mahon picked out Drillot direct from a corner and his header back into the goal-mouth was nodded over the line by the striker.

He completed his hat-trick as the clock ticked into the 90th minute, drilling a low drive into the net from Simon Marley’s pass.

North are back in action on Thursday night when Vale Rec, who beat Bels 2-0 on Tuesday with goals from Tyrese Kelly and Marlon Jardim, make the trip across Grand Ford Road.

If North win that derby and then defeat Rangers on Saturday, the league trophy is heading back to Northfield.

Reigning champions Saints beat Rangers 5-0 at Blanche Pierre Lane on Tuesday night with goals from Sam Hall, Tom Solway, Nigel Hutton and two from George Goubert.
