Records smashed at 2026 Sure Guernsey Marathon

Visiting athletes obliterated both the men’s and the women’s records at yesterday’s Sure Guernsey Marathon.

France’s Guillaume Ruel broke the tape at a sunny but mildly breezy South Esplanade in 2hrs 24min. 58sec., slashing nearly 5min. from the record set by Morocco’s Otmane Menbar last year.

The 2024 winner produced a bold front run to finish well clear of the UK’s Henry Hart (2-30-35) and his own brother Pierre-Antoine Ruel (2-32-13).

In fourth overall, Ethan Woodhead smashed his personal best to clock 2-33-52 for top Guernseyman.

Among the women, UK masters athlete Harriet Carr ran 2-56-09 to shave just over 14min. off a mark previously held by Guernsey’s own Vicky Carre.

She was tested over the first half by home favourite Ulrike Maisch, who ultimately settled for second in 3-01-29, while Sophie Fletcher rounded off the podium positions in 3-03-54.
