Although the Greens ultimately suffered the disappointment of defeat to Jersey in last week’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Sub Regional Qualifier final in Cyprus, the national men’s squad head coach was upbeat about what he took away from the event.
‘I would say we were solid-to-good, without being spectacular,’ Frith said.
‘Getting to the final was what we wanted, then we were perhaps 20-30 runs shy in that final against Jersey, but we were not far away and if we win that game, we are talking about us having an outstanding tournament.

‘But overall, we have gone away to an environment where if you designed conditions to suit our opponents – smaller grounds, slow outfields, matting wickets – that is exactly what we were up against, so for our guys to come out having won all their group games in those tricky conditions, that was a positive for us, but still with plenty of space for improvement.’
He also reported that hard work was paying off with, for example, Guernsey’s catching percentage being very high, while he was pleased with teenager Ed Robinson’s contribution in his senior ICC debut.
‘It is good that he has got a tournament under his belt and as a team we are getting better. Is it as fast as we would like? Perhaps not, but we are growing the group we can pick from and the main thing is that people are wanting to play for Guernsey,’ Frith said.
