While every match against Jersey is important in its own right, the fixture also marks the beginning of an exciting summer for the young Sarnians as they continue preparations for two major events next month – the ICC T20 Festival in Taunton from 12-17 July and the ICC Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Europe Qualifier, which Guernsey will host from 24-30 July.
Under the captaincy of Robinson, who made his senior ICC tournament debut last month in Cyprus, Guernsey aim to build momentum ahead of what promises to be one of the most significant periods in recent years for the island’s youth cricket programme.
‘Congratulations to every player selected to represent Guernsey. Selection for your island is a tremendous achievement and reflects the hard work, commitment and dedication each player has shown throughout the season,’ Guernsey Cricket chief operating officer Richard Headington said.
‘Sunday’s fixture provides an excellent opportunity for the squad to continue their preparations ahead of an exciting and challenging summer.
‘We wish Ed, the players, coaches and support staff every success and look forward to following their journey over the coming weeks, and we would also like to thank Smarter Payments for its support of the Under 19 programme and its commitment to helping develop the next generation of Guernsey cricketers.’
Sunday’s 50-over contest starts at 11am.
