‘I have put the kit out and from the ones who are unavailable, we could have named a good XI,’ said manager Tony Vance before rattling off a long list of absentees.
Among the injured are the influential figures of Josh Addison, Fin Du Port, Charlton Gauvain, Ross Allen and Sam Murray, who are joined on the sidelines by Niall Hainsworth, George Goubert, Archie Drillot and Cal Le Lacheur.
Add to that list Ben Solway and Corey Brouard, who are away this weekend, and the Green Lions are severely depleted for the visit of Roffey to Victoria Park.
‘It is what it is. We are in this situation at the moment and I’m not going to be judging us on this last month,’ said Vance.
‘I’m not going to deny it’s tough times at the moment and I think the results recently have been showing that, but we have still put a group together and we still aim to be competitive.
‘It is not ideal, but all we can do is try and piece something together – although I might ask if we can play 30min. each way,’ he added with a chuckle.
It is a sign of GFC’s growing strength in depth that their match-day squad continues to boast senior figures such as Jamie Dodd, Jacob Fallaize, Dave Merris and Will Fazakerley.
With dynamic players such as Fin Patterson, Brandon Wallace and Dylan Graham going forward, they should also be capable of causing Roffey problems.
The two sides met just three weeks ago in the league when GFC, who had Kevin Gilligan in charge that day with Vance work tied at Victoria Park, won 1-0 on the road thanks to Gauvain’s early goal.
‘You’ve just got to put the ball in the back of the net – I’m not too fussed about possession at the moment,’ Vance said.
‘Roffey pass the ball around well and they will likely have the majority of possession – I’m fine with that. That’s what we did at Roffey last time and it will be interesting to see what they do this time around.’
With it being a cup tie, the match kicks off at 2pm today at Victoria Park.
GFC Women begin their league campaign at home to Bognor Regis Town tomorrow. Kick off is 2pm.
