There were plenty of chances throughout the Priaulx League fixture at St Peter’s, but a second-half goal by Kyle Smith secured all three points for the Westerners.
‘I’m really pleased. I think we worked really hard all game, to be honest,’ said Sylvans head coach Dave Gilman.
‘I think there were two good sides today. It was a right battle, with chances at both ends, and I think any paying punters got their money’s worth today.
‘In the first half, especially early on, we created a number of chances that we didn’t quite manage to take and in games gone by and years gone by we’d have slipped, probably to a defeat, so I’m really pleased they seem to have matured and turned the corner in that sense, and we’ve gone on to win the game. It’s a good confidence builder and keeps us where we want to be.’
Gilman praised the Sylvans goalscorer for his part in their win.
‘I think Kyle up top obviously worked really hard today. He’s a constant threat and he’s scored his goal and that ultimately won us the game.
‘Then at the back I think Emerson Nobes was really strong again today, barely putting a foot wrong, and Zach in the middle of the park as well. I think all throughout the spine of the team we were really good today.’
Meanwhile, Guernsey FC suffered another defeat on the road on Saturday.
AFC Varndeanians came out 1-0 winners despite a positive start from the Green Lions. Ross Allen had a penalty saved and Aidan Eckworth-Jones scored for the hosts.
