Scott played the final 20 minutes of Tuesday night’s Nations League clash after a long wait to earn his first cap, despite having been a part of many of Thomas Tuchel’s recent squads for the past year.
‘It’s a proud moment for me, of course, and my family as well,’ he told BBC’s John Murray after the match.
‘I couldn’t wait, I had no nerves really. I was just obviously happy to get my opportunity, I’ve been on a few camps now and I know the boys pretty well, the staff as well, so it was great for me to finally get on the pitch.’
Scott grew up playing football for St Martin’s locally, and club director Ben Hunter said it was amazing to see what the Guernsey star was doing in his football career.
‘I think it’s fantastic as a friend of his and as a person for the football club,’ he said.
‘It’s just amazing to see what he’s creating with his career, he’s a fantastic player and an absolutely amazing lad so it’s great to watch him progressing. Playing for England is something that we all wish we could have done and he’s been able to do that.
‘It’s amazing to see them both [Scott and Maya Le Tissier] playing and Alex making his England debut is all we can dream of really from a club perspective. It just shows that Guernsey football is doing the right thing.’
Seven years before making his debut for the Three Lions, Scott made his debut for the Green Lions and GFC manager Tony Vance said he was proud to see him take the next step in his football career.
‘Just like every other Guernsey person really, I’m very proud to see him finally get that opportunity to become a full England international and when you say it like that it’s just incredible, isn’t it?’ he said.
‘Guernsey seems to just punch above its weight so much and to see that happen is so exciting for everybody.’
Steve Hutchison, who taught Scott at St Martin’s Primary School, said that it was emotional watching him make his debut.
‘I was watching hoping he would come on, and he did and got some decent touches as well,’ he said.
‘Alex was always skilful, very quick feet and would bounce off the bigger players. He is probably one of three or four players I look back on as having had real potential.’
