Barbara Halbert is an honorary member of the Inner Wheel Club, a women’s association affiliated with the Rotary Club.
She took part in its most recent biennial fashion show and led a stunning finale in a wedding guest outfit.
Taking to the catwalk at La Villette Hotel was nothing new to Barbara – she has been involved in the show for the past 20 years.
She attributed her vitality to family genes and a busy, engaged lifestyle.
‘My father was always young for his age,’ she said.
She said she would encourage younger generations to start early, stay curious, and ‘to find something that brings you joy for a lifetime’.
Her connection with the Inner Wheel dates back nearly 60 years.
Her enthusiasm and spirit shine through at every meeting, and her modelling experience, from training at the Lucy Clayton College, founded in London in the 1920s as a modelling agency and finishing school, to showcasing fashions around the globe, adds a special magic to the club’s events.
She said that taking to the catwalk was ‘just like going up to the postbox’.
Her ease and elegance come from a lifetime in fashion, beginning when she was just 18.
A former BOAC cabin crew member, Barbara was part of aviation history when she flew on the first trans-Atlantic jet crossing in 1958.
This year’s show raised money for the Guernsey Down Syndrome Group, selected by current Inner Wheel president Teresa O’Hara, and featured outfits from Alpha Fashion in the Pollet.
