Ashley Robbins, who has nearly 20 years in the bus industry behind him, will be overseeing all daily operations.
Peter Knight, managing director of Stagecoach South West, said Mr Robbins brought a rare combination of engineering expertise, operational leadership, and a proven track record of delivering excellence.
‘His experience across both technical and frontline operations makes him ideally placed to lead the team on Guernsey and support our continued focus on safety, reliability, and service quality,’ he said.
Stagecoach took over the running of the island’s bus services in April 2025.
Mr Robbins said: ‘I can’t wait to get over to Guernsey and see the operation first-hand. I’m looking forward to influencing positive change and embedding the policies and standards that support a strong, safe, and reliable operation.’
He added that his passion for engineering and transport was inspired early on by his uncle, a former engineering director.
He encouraged him to apply for his first role in the bus industry, a decision that set him on his career path.
Originally trained as a mechanic and electrician, Mr Robbins transitioned into operations, initially on a short-term basis, but quickly demonstrated a strong ability to drive change, influence performance, and improve operational standards.
In 2019, he moved to Weston-super-Mare as staff manager, where his leadership was instrumental in the Weston depot becoming the first within the company to achieve operations excellence silver accreditation. Weston and Wells later became the fifth depots overall to receive this internal silver award.
His career progression continued in 2021, when he took on the role of staff manager at the Wells depot in Bristol, overseeing a complex city operation.
In January 2023, he was appointed site operations manager at Hinkley Point on the Somerset coast, further strengthening his credentials in managing large-scale, high-profile operations.
Stagecoach, together with the Environment & Infrastructure Committee, has applied so far this year to increase fares by 10p on daytime routes, and also submitted proposals to make significant changes to the island’s route map, including cancelling some buses and introducing more stops on to Friday and Saturday night buses.
