Previously the law had focussed on commercial importations.
The Misuse of Drugs Advisory Group (MDAG) said amendments had been made to the Import (Control) (Guernsey) Order, 2010, to make it illegal to import any substance designed for the purposes of recreational drug use.
It also revealed a number of drugs had been classified or reclassified under the Misuse of Drugs (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 1974, including Ketamine, Tramadol and NBOMe – a relatively new hallucinogen regarded as an alternative to LSD.
Guernsey Border Agency branch manager Peter Knee, who sits on the MDAG, said the changes were not about stopping people bringing in legitimate medicine, but those who used them were recommended to carry any relevant prescriptions explaining it was needed for health reasons.
Counter medicine was also still allowed.
