Heritage Festival to have maritime theme
THE chance to climb to the top of the tower at Fort Grey will be just one of the events at the 2016 Channel Island Heritage Festival.
Now in its second year, the festival, which runs from 25 March to 10 May, will have a maritime focus to honour the islands' natural link with their coasts and the sea.
Visit Guernsey director for marketing and tourism Mike Hopkins said the second quarter of last year, which incorporated the festival, had seen a 10% increase in the number of staying visitors.
'Working with Jersey gives us the chance to combine not only activities, but marketing activities and spend and we will jointly be investing £100,000 in promotion this year,' he said.
The 45 days will include a total of 55 events in Guernsey, a similar number in Jersey, and others in Alderney, Sark and Herm. Some will double up to take the total number pan-island to about 600.
