Bethany Nicholson has nominated former St Peter Port School and St Sampson's High teacher Caroline McManus for the Carer of the Year Award, sponsored by Specsavers.

Miss Nicholson said Mrs McManus, a wife, mother, grandmother and godmother, now did all she could to support Guernsey citizens.

'Caroline has been a dedicated teacher for over 40 years, teaching at the St Peter Port Secondary School and later at St Sampson's High School, where she was commonly known as Mrs Bowker,' she said.

'Throughout her teaching career, Caroline has taken on various challenging yet vital roles including head of mathematics and provided intervention support.

'Always rising to the challenge, she gave everything she could and enlightened the lives of many students.'

Miss Nicholson said she met Mrs McManus in 2012 and she helped her in so many ways.

'Words cannot express how thankful we are for having a teacher like

Mrs B.'

Mrs McManus also balanced her teaching role with being local secretary of the NASUWT teacher's union.

'She is extremely passionate about education and thrives in helping Guernsey's young people.'

In addition to her voluntary work at the CAB, Mrs McManus also now helps to run many charitable quizzes with the help of her husband, Sean.

'She has cared and supported us as individuals throughout all of our difficult yet rewarding experiences. She has been there every step of the way. 'We could not be prouder of Caroline and we would not be where we are today without her.'
