Pride of Guernsey: 'One in a million'
A NURSE who has devoted her love and time to her children, as well as caring for thousands of people, has been described as a true role model.
Diana Winterflood, 54, has been nominated by her daughter for the Parent/s of the Year Award, sponsored by The Christies Group.
She qualified as a nurse in 1995 and while training brought up her twins, Dominique and Jonathan.
Dominique said her mum was kind and hard-working and was somehow able to divide her time between her children and studying - all of which they admire.
For the past 10 years, Diana has been the ward sister on an orthopaedic ward. 'She developed a strong team, she supported them through good times and bad,' Dominique said.
'She accepted a new challenging role last year – project managing – and she takes with her the enthusiasm and determination.
'My mum has cared for hundreds, perhaps thousands of people through all walks of life, through trauma, through illness. Her caring and hands-on nature is rare and I'm sure her colleagues both past, present and future will heed her determination and skills.
'Every parent is a blessing, but my mum is one in a million who deserves recognition.'
