Pride of Guernsey 'She has been really kind and gentle and made me feel not so worried'
LA MARE DE CARTERET PRIMARY teacher Mel Brown's attentiveness and support helps to get the best out of her students, according to one of her pupils.
One eight-year-old who put forward the nomination for the Garenne-sponsored Teacher of the Year Award, said Mrs Brown had helped him feel more comfortable in the classroom.
'I have been very nervous in school and Mrs Brown has been really kind and gentle and made me feel not so worried.'
He said Mrs Brown was always quick to notice when he was struggling or felt down.
'She even notices when things are getting too noisy for me or if I'm getting upset.'
This awareness and willingness to help her pupils achieve their best is borne out in his own performance at school, he said.
'Mrs Brown always encourages me to do my best and doesn't get cross if I get stuck. I've been working hard and I think my marks have gone up too.'
As a result, the youngster said he enjoys school a lot more than he used to.
'I love going to school now and I really enjoy my learning,' he said.
