Pride of Guernsey: 'The rock of the family'
LOVING and caring parents who not only support their five children but also their nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild have been nominated for the Christies Group-sponsored Parent/s of the Year Award.
Karen and Graham Fallaize were put forward for the accolade by one of their daughters, Shireena Rumens.
'My parents aren't just like any other parents – yes they are loving and caring and adore their children and grandchildren, but they are also the rock of this family,' she said.
'I also live with them along with my six children, two of whom have additional needs.'
Karen is a recovery nurse and Shireena said her mum brought the children up first before qualifying later in life.
She said her dad was a hard-working man.
'My mum and dad have both been there for us and we are so very grateful to them both.
'There are just not enough words to explain how much they mean to us. They are amazing and do anything they can to help.
'They work their whole lives around us all and not only support us day-to-day but also mentally.'
