Deputy is a surprise star at weekend's Sark Folk Festival

FRIENDS, frolic and fiddles were just some of the ingredients of the seventh annual Sark Folk Festival.

Some 1,300 paid for tickets for what is probably the most over-subscribed event in the Bailiwick calendar.

Committee member Josh de Kooker said the level of interest made it all worthwhile and the organisers looked to improve on things year on year.

'We want people to enjoy themselves, listen to some music, and have fun, it's as simple as that,' he said.

'The logistics of getting so many people to and from the island can be challenging but, fingers-crossed, we are usually lucky with a window of good weather.'

One of the highlights of Saturday's programme was Clameur de Haro performing their song Dear John, that band members Richie Klein and Simon 'Shifty' Rivers had written about Deputy John Gollop. It came complete with an appearance on stage from the man himself.
