Reservoir at lowest level for five years

WATER levels at St Saviour's reservoir are the lowest they have been in five years, as Guernsey Water said storage levels were 'being closely monitored'.

Following rainfall of 47.4mm for October, which is around half of the 95.5mm 30-year average for the month, the utility announced overall storage levels of 77.9%.

While this sees St Saviour's reservoir being just 60% full, general manager Stephen Langlois said there was nothing to be concerned about at this stage.

'At the start of the year when our water storage was full we had an above average amount of rain and more recently, with the dry start to our autumn, we have had below average rainfall,' he said.

'This means that our stored water levels are marginally below the 10-year average for the time of year, which is similar to our October 2013 levels.'
