STAFF at the MFA Guernsey Bowl were given no notice before being made redundant today, as it was suddenly announced the business was shutting down permanently, with immediate effect.

The building located at the end of Victoria Avenue, St Sampson's, has been locked up and closed, a fact the staff only found out this morning.

It has been marketed for £3.2m.

The MFA manager for the region confirmed the centre would be permanently closed, and it was not just a temporary measure.

According to one member of the permanent staff team of 10, the business has ‘been on the way out’ for a while now, but it was still a shock to find out via text from a colleague on the same morning.

Similarly, one of the residents of the flats inside the Bowl building said he had only just found out about the closure, in the middle of the afternoon.

Concerns were raised by the tenants about the future of the building if it were to be sold.

MFA Bowl, the company who leased the site from the owner, have 29 other bowling centres around the UK, including in Jersey.

From today, however, they removed Guernsey’s listing from their website, took the Guernsey specific website down, and deleted the Bowl’s Facebook page.

The staff are set to have a meeting tomorrow morning to discuss the situation.
