‘Save the Eisteddfod’

A CALL for public support and sponsorship is being made by the organisers of the Guernsey Eisteddfod after they suffered a substantial loss at this year’s festival.

The month-long event last made a small profit in 2015 but with the loss of four sponsors in the last four years and increasing costs such as printing and adjudicator expenses, it made a loss in 2016 and a significant one this year in 2017.

The festival costs around £62,000 to put on each year – that includes a discount from Education, Sport & Culture on the hall hire at Beau Sejour.

Secretary Barbara Minta said the committee would be increasing admission fees for 2018 in response. However, they had to be careful not to increase them too much.
