Two ‘founding fathers’ at anniversary event

TWO founding fathers of one of Guernsey’s leading insurance companies were among the guests at an event to mark 40 years in business for Aon Insurance Managers.

Barry Seymour and Roger Hall were among the key individuals at the birth of the insurance sector in the island in the 1970s and came together with their firms when Aon was founded more than 20 years ago.

Mr Seymour headed up Alexander & Alexander in the island, a global firm which was bought by Aon in 1996. Mr Hall was at the helm of Hogg Robinson in Guernsey, and the two businesses, and the two men, came together for a while under the Aon roof at the end of the 1990s.

Aon managing director Paul Sykes paid tribute to the two men.

‘They did great things for the industry and great things for Guernsey,’ he said. ‘Much of our success has been built on their labours.’
