Pupils from St Mary and St Michael will be the first from Guernsey to attend the national performance. For the last 20 years, Young Voices has staged the largest children’s choir concerts in the world.

School music co-ordinator and Year 4 teacher Rebecca Hockey heard about it through another school in England and thought it would be a good experience for the children.

‘It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and something the children will remember for the rest of their lives.’

She said 17 of the choir members were taking part – that included Year 5 & 6 children as well as a couple of Year 4s.

They have had to learn 28 songs ranging from the more traditional to modern pop.
