Students from the College of Further Education were given the opportunity to submit ideas for an art installation to appear at the event.
Will Corbet, 19, came up with the idea of an anchor to encourage travel to the island and his winning sculpture took pride of place at a presentation evening held at the Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts.
As well as encouraging travel, the students were given the brief of coming up with something that encouraged attendee interaction at the forum itself, showcased the funds industry or promoted feedback on the event.
Will’s model anchor will be joined by two full-size crab pots and delegates will be able to use one or other of these to record positive or negative reactions to the event.
On top of the the accolade of having his work displayed in London, Will received a graphics tablet and a design book and will also have a graphic design work experience placement with Guernsey Finance.
Guernsey Finance brand and marketing manager Dominique Ogier led the project.
‘I was looking for something a bit different to do at this year’s Funds Forum,’ she said. ‘We’ve been talking about doing a project with the College of FE.
‘Paul Mundy, head of the Channel Islands at State Street, said the company was delighted to sponsor the initiative.
‘Working with students from the college has been rewarding and provided our team with completely fresh insights into our industry from a segment of the community we typically wouldn’t engage with in our day-to-day working lives.’
Additional awards were presented to students Brendan Conway for the best exhibition and Alex Loveridge for the most original concept.
