The position involves being concerned in a wide range of matters, such as criminal cases, the family court and civil law cases.

The new incumbent would take up the role in January to allow for a period of familiarisation.

In order to qualify for the job, applicants must have been in practice as an advocate of Guernsey’s Royal Court, or as a member of the Bar or its equivalent in England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland, or a solicitor of the Supreme or Senior courts or their equivalent in those four countries.

Alternatively, they should have held judicial office in Jersey, the UK or the Isle of Man.

Applicants are also expected to have experience in court situations.

There are currently two full-time Magistrate’s Court judges, and while the advert is chiefly for one full-time role, the Royal Court might consider making two part-time appointments.

n The closing date for applications is Thursday 20 September.

Anyone interested will find details of the role and how to apply at www.guernseyroyalcourt.gg.
