An email was sent to more than 600 suppliers, according to someone who received it, where contacts were CC’d, so all email addresses were visible.
The breach was reported to the data protection team.
‘Apologies have been issued to those individuals who have complained to [the States] and we are dealing with the data protection commissioner on the matter,’ a States spokesman said.
Data protection commissioner Emma Martins confirmed the receipt of one complaint from an individual regarding the processing of personal data by the Policy & Resources Committee.
‘Enquiries will be conducted in accordance with our statutory duties and should it be deemed appropriate to make a public statement once those have concluded, this will be done by the [Data Protection] Authority,’ she said.
The email concerned the changeover to a new online system for those wanting to tender for States projects.
