It was dumped at the junction of La Ruette du Frocq and Rue de la Lande, Castel.
A few weeks ago a large amount of mattress stuffing was dumped illegally on headland near Port Grat.
The rubbish was discovered yesterday morning by a passer by, who tweeted about the discovery.
‘We were made aware of this incident this morning, and as the bags were left on the road we arranged for it be cleared today,’ a spokesman for Traffic and Highways said.
‘Obviously that will now be cleared at taxpayers’ expense, because whoever has generated this waste has chosen to avoid the legitimate cost of dealing with it responsibly.
‘That is made even more annoying by the fact it includes numerous items that could have been taken to the recycling centre at Longue Hougue and disposed of free of charge.
‘We condemn any incident of fly-tipping. It is a crime and highly anti-social, so if anyone has any information that will help identify the perpetrator we would ask them contact Guernsey Waste on 231234 or Guernsey Police on 725111.’
St Peter Port Constables warned last year that the new waste strategy, which introduced charges for black sack waste, would see a rise in fly-tipping and increased efforts would be needed to ensure perpetrators were identified and prosecuted.
While the illegal dumping of waste can be a difficult offence to investigate Guernsey Police have assured that where there is evidence to help identify the offender, they will be put before the courts where they could receive a substantial fine.
