Local businesses sought to back Liberation events

LIBERATION DAY is fast approaching and organisers are working to get as many local clubs and businesses involved as possible.

This includes seeking businesses to sponsor certain areas or activities.

Skipton International, Guernsey Electricity and Cherry Godfrey have now been confirmed as hero sponsors for the 2019 celebrations.

The trio join department store Creasey’s, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year and being present when the island was liberated in 1945. It was the first to confirm its support.

Head of marketing and events for Education, Sport & Culture Nikki Symons said: ‘ESC are pleased to have local businesses from the community working with us to help make the day as brilliant as possible. It’s great to have their support with such an important day in the history of the island.’

Guernsey Electricity, which is keen to promote energy saving, has chosen to sponsor the climbing wall which will be in the children’s area on the Crown Pier.

Spokeswoman Louise Hesse confirmed its support.

‘We’re really looking forward to this year’s Liberation Day and are proud to support some of the exciting activities that are being planned,’ she said.
