Flights from Belfast City Airport, Birmingham, Southampton, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Newcastle were among those affected. However so far flights to and from Guernsey have not been hit.

An airline spokesperson has apologised for the disruption and said that 95% of its flights was operating normally.

'We are doing our best to mitigate the impact of the current situation that has arisen due to a combination of factors including seasonality, pilots’ end of leave year, Easter holidays, base restructuring and the shortage of pilots across the industry that Flybe has highlighted over recent months,' they said.

'We have already identified several mitigation actions and will be issuing further updates throughout the day.'

Those affected have been emailed and offered the chance to rebook or have a refund.

Flybe operates a number of services from Guernsey, including routes to Jersey, Birmingham and Exeter, as well as to Southampton under a franchise partnership with Blue Islands.

The disruption comes less than two months after the airline was sold to a consortium, led by Virgin Atlantic.
