Luxury yacht’s masts dominate harbour

THE 61-metre masts of the 92m-long luxury sailing yacht Eos dominated St Peter Port Harbour for much of Saturday.

It is owned by American Barry Diller, who was responsible for the creation of Fox Broadcasting Company in addition to Fox’s motion picture operations.

Mr Diller is currently chairman and senior executive of IAC, which has brands such as Expedia, Match and Tinder in its stable.

The Bermuda-rigged schooner, one of the world’s largest private sailing yachts, took on board approximately 190,000 litres of marine diesel.

The Eos arrived at approximately 7am from the Netherlands sailed at 8 in the evening for Scotland.

Eos was built in 2006 by Lurssen Yachts in Germany for Mr Diller, husband of fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg.

It is powered by twin MTU 4000hp diesel engines, giving it a top speed of 16 knots (under motor).

Eos can accommodate 16 guests and has a crew of 21.

Valued at more than US$150m. it underwent a refit at Royal Huisman shipyard in the Netherlands, from where it sailed to Guernsey.
