Town seafront closed this evening due to expected high tide and floods
IMPASSABLE coastal roads are expected again tonight due to floods caused by high tides.
As a protective measure, the Quay in St Peter Port is closed from 7pm to 9pm tonight and it will close for several hours during peak times tomorrow morning.
High tide tonight may be slightly lower than this morning's 10.2m which flooded the town seafront between North Beach and the Albert Pier.
Commuters were surprised to see the emergency closures at the Quay with traffic backed up along Le Val des Terres.
Guernsey Police issued advice to say they are 'putting in place some measures to protect drivers as the high tide is a whopper at 10.01m at 8.10pm.'
Civil Protection Teams redirected drivers in wake of the floods and will be operating again this evening and tomorrow.
‘Winds are likely to increase, so it is highly likely that a number of west coast roads will be impassable.'
Sensible precautions are advised.
'As such please avoid the west coast, especially between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.'
Tomorrow morning the same procedures will be used to tackle the tides at 10.2m metres again around 8.20am.
Because of this the Quay will close tomorrow morning from around 7.20am to 9.20am.
These times are subject to change depending on the situation.
‘Civil Protection Volunteers will be patrolling and will liaise with us,' Guernsey Police said, 'if you see them and they give you advice, please heed it.'
