EV charging station firm starts crowdfunding scheme

A COMPANY hopes to use crowdfunding to raise £300,000 to accelerate electric vehicle ownership on and off-island as petrol and diesel vehicles are phased out by installing more charging points.

Local provider and operator of EV charging stations Plug-N-Go launched the campaign.

Funds raised will cover charge point installation costs, starting with four at St Martin’s Co-op.

PNG co-founder Keith Hounsell said: ‘We know there’s a desire from the public to drive electric and a demand from businesses to offer charge points. Too often these are put on the “nice to have” pile. We believe it should be easy to own and run an EV. We know EVs have a huge part to play in halting the climate crisis so we’re making it simple for businesses to install charging stations.’

Planning permission costs are covered after finding viable and safe installation sites and there are no outlays or maintenance fees.

Clients receive a share of revenue from electricity sales over a 10-year term.

‘This is a unique opportunity for the people of Guernsey to invest in green technology and help make our air a little cleaner,’ said Mr Hounsell.

‘It doesn’t matter if you contribute £10 or £1,000, like us our supporters believe the future of driving is electric and are confident their investment will benefit their community, the planet and provide financial returns.’

The company said the crowdfunding was needed to kickstart installations, promotion and to improve its website.

Those investing become a shareholder, and a £250 investment, for example, would get £5 of charging credit on a fob.

Since 2017, PNG has installed 98 charge points in Guernsey, Gibraltar and the UK.

Last week two new stations were installed at the Odeon car park and Le Crocq Pier.
