Charities are given longer to apply for Swimarathon funds
SKIPTON SWIMARATHON has extended its deadline for charities to become this year’s beneficiary.
Applications can now be submitted until 12 March, after the organising committee recognised the need for more time following the resurgence of Covid-19.
Last year the main beneficiary was the Alzheimer’s Association, which was awarded £30,000 to expand its valued sitters service, offering support to carers of those living with dementia.
‘Circumstances have put pressure upon everyone and we want to give those worthy causes more time to prepare an application,’ said Nick Guillemette, chairman of the Skipton Swimarathon committee.
‘We know that due to the pandemic there will be many charities suffering at this time and plenty of worthy projects, so the more applications we have, the greater chance there is of the event being a success.’
Last year’s event had a record number of participants and funds raised as one of few community fundraisers to go ahead.
‘Over the past 44 years we have committed to several projects for different charities as well as sole beneficiaries, so the scope of our search is wide,’ he said.
‘We want to find a cause or causes that will unite the public and encourage as many people, schools and corporate organisations as possible to take to the pool to raise money and have fun.’
Funds raised offer a unique opportunity to any registered charity which needs support for their community projects, Mr Guillemette said.
. Charities can apply by completing an application form which is available to download at swimarathon.org.
