Knitted bunnies benefit African charity
MORE than £1,000 has been raised for charity through the sale of hundreds of hand-knitted bunnies.
Marian Falla started knitting for charity 15 years ago and for the last five or six has knitted rabbits to sell at Easter.
Normally they are sold through outlets, but with lockdown this year they have been available at Mrs Falla’s front gate. And they have proved very popular.
So far, more than 300 have been sold, raising £1,199.
‘I’m very, very pleased with that,’ Mrs Falla said.
She started knitting on Christmas Day and built up a production line of arms, heads and bodies.
‘The bit that took the time was finishing off, with the faces,’ she said.
She added that it was a struggle to part with some of the bunnies, which have lots of different details, but she said she knew each one was raising £3.50 for charity.
The money goes to Wayaya, a charity set up in 2002 to help children in Zambia living in poverty.
Mrs Falla said a few more surplus bunnies may go on her gate in Les Querites, Castel, but now she was focusing on existing orders. Such has been the demand that she is not taking on new ones.
She has received some lovely feedback from people who had already purchased the knitted pieces.
