The visits were scrapped during the pandemic, but previously contributed millions to the local economy each year.

A States spokesman said that so far 85 calls were expected next year, with the first set to arrive in April.

‘We are looking forward to the return of cruise liners as it provides a much-needed economic boost for our tourism and retail industries,’ they said.

‘Research tells us that once a visitor has come ashore they often return to the islands for a holiday, which is something we wish to actively encourage. The full 2022 cruise list is currently being processed and will be available online shortly.

‘Guernsey Harbours, the Committee for Economic Development alongside our partners in the tourism industry are working together, and engaged with Public Health who will assess the conditions and ensure the appropriate guidance is in place.’

While a full list has not been published, it is understood cruise ships of all sizes are expected.

Cruise ships last visited Guernsey in 2019, when 80 vessels visited the Bailiwick, bringing ashore more than 115,000 people.
