Marooned Awakening started filming in Guernsey in September 2021 and is now in the post-production stages.

The thriller film tells the story of Alex, an aspiring young journalist who dreams of leaving his island home, as he journeys through distorted memories of his mourning father, loving girlfriend and a recent accident.

‘It’s great, we’ve got quite a fleeting film scene in Guernsey the last couple of years, so by getting these big names in it brings the game up and hopefully indicates positive things for the future,’ said Cameron Ashplant, one of the producers of the film who grew up in Guernsey.

‘It is unheard of to have such amazing talent working with local film makers, but further still to have such prestigious actors attending Guernsey for a world premiere, that is a real rarity.’

McInnerny will be playing the voice-over role of Karl – a press editor who offers the protagonist a new life as a journalist in the UK.

The veteran actor is known for his roles in Notting Hill and 101 Dalmations, as well as playing Lord Percy in Blackadder.

He will be joining Game of Thrones alumni Murray McArthur, who is playing Alex’s father.

‘Tim’s role is the press editor who is offering Alex a ticket off the island. We approached a few actors but we were eyeing up Tim for a while because he has a known, identifiable voice.

‘We thought he fitted the role quite well to take on the managerial role,’ said Mr Ashplant.

The plot draws on Mr Ashplant’s experiences living in an island and the feeling of isolation that he said is often thought to come with it.

‘A lot of people living in the island comment on its remoteness, and that feeling you can’t leave and that you’re stuck somewhere.’

Producers Roger Le Tissier and Frances Le Tissier are also working on the production which is being funded by Ivy Gate Films and Guernsey Arts. The cast, including, Tim McInnerny, are expected to attend the screening at a red carpet event which is due to take place on 3 September.
