Barbara Crowson came across the item on the evening of Monday 7 February when dropping off her son’s double bass for a music lesson the following day.
‘It was near the pedestrian crossing,’ she said. ‘I didn’t notice it when I got out, but saw it when I got back.’
The locket unscrews and there is ash inside it. It has a blue stone and ‘Forever in my heart’ engraved on the back. The silver chain is hallmarked.
The chain was embedded in the ground, though the locket was undamaged apart from some pitting on the back.
‘It’s a very nice thing,’ said Mrs Crowson. ‘It may mean a great deal to somebody but I don’t know who and I would like them to have it back.’
Mrs Crowson said she spoke to Guernsey Police who said they could only keep lost property for up to a month.
‘It might take longer than that for the owner to come forward so I’ve kept it, but police are aware and have my contact details,’ she said.
Mrs Crowson has posted a notice on Facebook and asked Les Beaucamps if it could be mentioned in assembly or alternatively to each class.
She also contacted Argent Funeral Services to see if anybody recognised it, but that too was in vain.
‘It could belong to a pupil at Les Beaucamps and might be in memory of a pet, but I just don’t know,’ said Mrs Crowson.
The owner, or anyone who might know who the owner, is asked to contact Mrs Crowson on 07781 405679.
