The historic shoe shop shut abruptly in 2019 due t0 issues securing a new lease on the large shop at the southern end of the High Street.

It left Town without a dedicated shoe businesses for both sexes.

But Pavers, the Yorkshire-based shoe company that took on Jones Bootmaker and Beghins in 2018, confirmed yesterday a new shop would be opening shortly.

‘Beghins is one of the Channel Islands' oldest stores, trading since 1842, and we can’t wait to reintroduce fantastic quality footwear to our existing and new customers,’ said a spokesman.

The new store will be in the former Land of Green Ginger shop at Le Pollet, St Peter Port and is expected to open in the summer.

Beghins stopped stocking children’s shoes in 2017, before closing two years later.

A company spokeswoman confirmed the business would be stocking men’s and women’s styles, but not children’s, with Beghins, Jones Bootmaker and Pavers brands.

Head of retail Gary Gordon said having physical stores was important.

‘We understand that our customers often want advice and a human connection when they are shopping, and we are proud of our high street retail stores which deliver this.’

The business is advertising for staff.

The job advert said the business was set to open in May.
