The MV Midas is a 108m boat which was built in Germany in 1990 and sails under the Finnish flag.

If the trials prove successful, Condor said the Midas will provide capacity between Portsmouth and Guernsey and support the lifeline freight operations until the Goodwill returns.

Goodwill was undergoing a month-long check in Spain when it sustained damage to a propeller and drive shaft while in dry dock.

Condor has previously used MV Arrow on charter to cover the Clipper or Goodwill.

Recently it was sold by Lancashire-based Seatruck Ferries to the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.

Condor said at the time it would not affect its ability to charter the boat if necessary.
