Nikki Symons, head of marketing and events at Sport & Culture for the States, said the lights were timed to come on at Fort Grey, Castle Cornet and Beau Sejour as soon as darkness fell.
‘All across the Commonwealth buildings will be lit in this way, to unite us and acknowledge the occasion. It is such a visual image and its significance cannot be missed.
‘Wherever you are, it will show what a momentous occasion this has been,’ she said.
