The school is inviting islanders to go to a one-off open morning tomorrow to see the office fixtures and fittings available.

Although the giveaway is open to the general public, the college’s bursar, James Couchman, said it was especially keen for good causes to benefit from the opportunity.

‘Elizabeth College inherited the items with the building and want to make sure that any remaining usable furniture or equipment finds a good home,’ he said.

‘We hope that some of the items could be useful for any clubs, charities, societies and schools on island to re-use or re-purpose.’

Staff are putting together a showroom for the open morning, where upwards of 20 modern desks, numerous storage cupboards, brand new fittings for computer monitors and a scattering of office chairs will be available to claim.

The furniture was left behind when RBC left Perrot Court, previously known as Canada Court, at the start of 2020.

The site was sold to Elizabeth College for £4.75m. and, after extensive remodelling, was opened to students in February last year.

The school has re-purposed as many of the leftover fittings as it can, with some of the desks reused in offices, the boardroom table is now used for staff meetings, and the sofas from the bank’s reception have been installed in a chill-out area for sixth form pupils.

The furniture has been stored in the building’s basement and the school is still deciding what to do with the space once the unwanted furniture has been removed.

‘The plans for the basement are all part of the next phase of the project to develop Perrot Court,’ said Mr Couchman.

‘We have some exciting ideas for the area which will come to fruition in the next three to five years.’

The furniture is available for free but the school is hoping to raise funds for its charitable efforts in Kenya through voluntary donations.

Mr Couchman accompanied pupils on a trip to Kenya last year and saw for himself the important work being undertaken.

‘It was a huge privilege to see first-hand the work being carried out by our partner charities to help feed, care for, and educate some of the poorest children and their families in the villages surrounding St Andrew’s school in Turi,’ he said.

The open morning is at the Perrot Court entrance to the school on Uplands Road tomorrow from 10 to 11.30am.

Items can be claimed and taken away on the day, or collected on Friday 9 February between 9 and 10am or the next day from 10-11am.
