Weather report from Cobo boosts visits to VisitGuernsey.com
AN ITV national weather forecast from Cobo resulted in a 10% boost to VisitGuernsey’s website visitors.
Presenter Alex Beresford travelled to the island for the broadcast on Tuesday and stood on La Reunion’s balcony overlooking the beach for the programme, which formed part of the early evening news.
It was a 9.5m spring tide and the programme went out just after 7pm, when the tide was at its peak.
Newsreader Mary Nightingale said she believed the Guernsey sunset was the best ever.
‘It is wonderful here at the moment,’ Mr Beresford said on the programme.
‘The sun is literally just dipping beyond the horizon here in Guernsey.’
At the time of filming the tide was high, but the programme also showed footage of Cobo earlier in the day, where the beach was busier with swimmers and walkers.
A VisitGuernsey spokeswoman said the ITV national weather production team had got in touch at the end of August, requesting support with presenting the weather live from Guernsey.
‘The team were keen to capture a west coast sunset and VisitGuernsey reached out to La Reunion as a possible filming location and they were very happy to accommodate the request,’ she said.
‘It is not unusual for VisitGuernsey to be working behind the scenes with production teams to make the most of these opportunities, and we were delighted that conditions were perfect.
‘Beaming a Guernsey sunset into the homes of more than a million people across the UK saw an uplift of more than 10% of traffic to the VisitGuernsey website, compared to the previous day, and last Tuesday.’
n A tide warning has been issued for the east coast for this morning’s high tide. North easterly winds of up to force six are predicted, while the spring tide is expected to be just shy of 10m at about 8.15am.
