The issue saw the runway closed for just over an hour.

The flight for G-ISLM took off at 8.36am, but had to quickly turn around and land back at the airport after a technical issue was reported.

The runway closed at 8.42am and the Airport Fire & Rescue Service attended.

All passengers were transferred by bus to the terminal.

The runway reopened at 9.50am.

Aurigny’s outbound service to Alderney, which was due to leave at 8.55am, was delayed.

The inbound flights from Southampton and London Gatwick also had to hold overhead until the runway reopened, but both landed around 10am.

‘We apologise for the inconvenience to our passengers who have been rebooked on to an additional service to Jersey at 11.30am,’ said a Blue Islands spokesman.

‘Safety of our passengers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority at all times.’
