The GSPCA said last night that it had received a report that a squirrel had found its way to the island in the back of a vehicle.

The squirrel was said to have been seen around the area near Bluechip in Grandes Maisons Road, St Sampson’s.

‘It seems very healthy and has run off,’ said GSPCA manager Steve Byrne.

‘Trying to catch a healthy squirrel will be very challenging until we know the area it settles in, but all reports are much appreciated and we will release more information when we know.

‘Grey squirrels are not indigenous to Guernsey and we have let the States know.’
