Peter Roffey, who was away with his family, returned to his home in St Andrew’s to find the tyres on his electric bike and motorbike slashed, as well as the tyres on his grandson’s car.

‘It’s just really annoying,' he said.

'It’s hard to say whether it’s related to the election, as I’m not standing this year, but I can only imagine I’ve upset someone in some way.

‘It could have been a random act of vandalism but it seems weird that it was my house specifically.

‘If people are upset they can always talk to me, I’m happy to talk.’

Deputy Roffey went out to his shed to get his new e-bike to go out, then noticed it had a puncture and thought it was odd, seeing as it was new.

He instead went to his scooter and was about to set off when he realised one of its tyres was also flat.

Finally he got into his grandson’s car, only to realise the front nearside tyre was also flat.

He said that it was too much of a coincidence, and upon closer look, realised that they had all been slashed.

Deputy Roffey said that these types of incidents seemed to be an unfortunate trend that was emerging in local politics.

In July 2022, Deputy Victoria Oliver had excrement left on the doorstep of her family home, and other politicians have said that they have seen signs of vandalism or damage during their time in the States.

Deputy Roffey highlighted the issue on social media and has received an outpouring of support.

Deputy Peter Ferbrache has also had unpleasant experiences during his time as a politician.

‘I heard about what happened to Peter and thought it was terrible, what a horrible thing to have happen. Peter doesn’t deserve that, no one deserves that,’ he said.

‘Quite some time ago I had dog poo spread over my car windscreen over GST and I’ve received a lot of abuse. I’m sorry for Peter and I hope they catch the people who did it.’
