The Guernsey star played a pivotal role before coming off with an injury as England beat Germany 3-2 after extra-time to retain the U21 Euro title they won two years ago.

Having started the final in Bratislava, Scott was forced off just before half-time, with England leading 2-1 at that stage thanks to goals from Harvey Elliott and Omari Hutchinson.

He had enjoyed a fine 44 minutes up to that point, controlling the midfield alongside Nottingham Forest’s Elliott Anderson.

Germany fought back to level in the second-half but substitute Jonathan Rowe headed in the winner early in extra-time to see Lee Carsley's side crowned champions.

‘I’m really proud of the players,’ Carsley told England Football.

‘The commitment they’ve shown for the last 28 days. All these instructions we’ve tried to put into them have been taken on board so quickly.

‘They’ve got so much belief. We spoke about it at St. George’s. This squad believe that they can win and that’s the kind of players we need. I’m so proud of them, so happy for them,’ he said.

It is the second international tournament win for Scott, who played with a distinctive chin guard throughout after suffering a fractured jaw towards the end of his Premier League season with Bournemouth.

The former St Martin’s and Guernsey FC man also lifted the European title with England U19s in 2022.

He finished this tournament with a goal, an assist and a passing accuracy of over 96% across five appearances.
