A range of activities were on offer, with the Duke’s Leopards group from Jersey setting up a medieval camp, with songs and cooking, a medieval-themed craft room for people to make their own crafts, and group Tor Galen showing off their weapons.
Guernsey Museum’s access and learning manager Jo Dowding said it was wonderful to see people enjoying the event.
‘It’s about celebrating the castle’s medieval history,’ she said.
‘We are really pleased with the numbers, as we know there are a lot of events over the summer.’
She said one highlight for her from the day was with artist James Kitt’s project to transform the base of the gunner’s tower into a thieves’ lair, which small groups could explore.
Ben Tooley, 16, was its gatekeeper.
‘We have hidden coins and goblets for them to “steal”, which they bring back and they get to be a member of the thieves guild,’ he said.
‘We have been very busy.’
Melissa Jimenez was there with her son Bodhi Davidson, six, who was enjoying a bit of watermelon, which was cut with an axe in the weapon display. She said they were having a great time.
‘This is the first time we have been, but we heard about it from friends and it’s been in the calendar,’ she said.
‘We’ve loved it.’
