National Trust ‘blown away’ by interest in council appeal

Guernsey's National Trust has been ‘blown away’ by the amount of interest generated by a Guernsey Press article appealing for new council members.

President Mike Brown revealed last week that the charity was looking for a properties manager, honorary treasurer and honorary secretary, as well as a further general council member to replace outgoing members, and was concerned at the lack of candidates.

‘It has been astounding, we have had so much interest since that story was published,’ he said.

‘It is tremendous that so many people on the island want to be involved and I think it says a lot about Guernsey. This should allow us to fill all the gaps on our board and to get even more people involved.’

However, he added that he was still happy for anyone else interested to contact the trust.

‘We would not want to turn the perfect candidate away and we would still especially like to hear from anyone with a financial background for the treasury role,’ he said.

Mr Brown has offered to meet prospective candidates in person, but such has been the interest he has now adapted that plan.

‘We are now holding a meeting towards the end of September at Les Caches Farm to answer questions and queries from everyone who has contacted us about what we do and what’s involved,’ he said.

‘That still leaves time for anyone interested in finding out more to get in touch.’

The trust’s council currently has only eight members. The trust’s AGM is on 1 October at Les Caches Farm.
