The Guernsey Press Politics Podcast is expanding. For the 2025/26 political ‘season’, you can expect more interviews, more analysis, more guests, and a wide range of voices and views. We will soon launch a new series featuring long-form interviews with States members. These will follow a similar format to our election podcasts, during which we hosted long-form interviews with 77 candidates. You made them a great success, chalking up tens of thousands of listens – thank you again for your support.

Starting next week, we will aim to host two long-form interviews each month – one with a committee president or Policy & Resources member and one with another deputy. They will be punchy and probing, holding to account the deputies we have elected to run our island for the next four years, but still with an emphasis on being constructive and balanced, not trying to catch out interviewees. We will aim for substantial discussion which informs listeners, not rows or soundbites. We have invited our first three deputy guests – Education, Sport & Culture president Paul Montague, new deputy Haley Camp, and, in the week the 2026 Budget is published, Policy & Resources’ treasury lead Gavin St Pier.

We will host a new extended politics show a few days before each States meeting, starting ahead of the Assembly’s second September sitting. We will, as usual, preview the business of the meeting, but also chew over the biggest political issues of the moment, occasionally with guests from inside and outside the States.

Well-known former deputies, now political commentators, Heidi Soulsby and Michelle Le Clerc are reviving their occasional podcast of a couple of years ago, and from the end of September it will be hosted on the Guernsey Press Politics Podcast feed, going out approximately once a month.

Shorthand States is turning into a single-edition show covering each meeting of the Assembly, rather than an update every evening. We will review the debates and outcomes on the final day of each meeting, or sometimes the following day, occasionally with a guest. In the paper and on our website, we will continue to provide the same extensive coverage of local politics, with the latest news from the States chamber and committee rooms, interviews with key players, analysis and opinion from our journalists and regular and occasional columnists. We are looking forward to keeping you, our loyal readers and listeners, informed and entertained through our stories and broadcasts throughout the local political ‘season’ ahead.

Thanks for your ongoing support and please do get in touch with any feedback or ideas.
