She defeated John Gollop by 20 votes to 14 in a secret ballot.
Her proposer, P&R president Lindsay de Sausmarez, described her as analytical, pragmatic and hard working.
‘As a committee, we have our work cut out, and we are all well aware of the challenges that lie just down the track,’ said Deputy de Sausmarez.
‘While I welcome the opportunity for a contested election, given the scale of the task ahead, I would ask the Assembly to respect the thought that the Committee has put into its nomination as the best fit for the committee.’
Deputy Burford will now have to relinquish the presidency of the Development & Planning Authority, which she has held only since July.
