Healthscape harnesses the powers of South Devon’s natural surroundings by offering a range of outdoor activities, from sea swims to beach walks, as well as social support to enhance mental health and wellbeing.

Its services focus on stress reduction, mental clarity, physical fitness, and sensory enrichment.

The desire to branch out to Guernsey ignited after a few of its members visited the island on holiday and happened to bump into the Guernsey Bluetits swimming group during a cold morning dip.

The brave swimmers discussed their appreciation for the sea and all the mental health benefits that prospered from being in and around it.

After months of correspondence, the local hub will officially launch as a registered charity mid-November.

It will be run by five volunteers, who are all part of the Guernsey Bluetits.

‘It’s going to be fantastic, I can’t wait to get going,’ said Marina Burr, who will be the island branch’s main administrator.

‘They were so taken by the way we run the Bluetits – how inclusive it is and how it’s just small, friendly swims – no mass swims that can sometimes be overwhelming.

‘I work at the Medical Specialist Group where I’m also a qualified mental health first aider, and I have a level three aquatic safety qualification – so we’re ticking all the boxes.

‘I’m going to have helpers who are also all qualified lifesavers. It’s a good mix of age and backgrounds.’

Mrs Burr said the charity hopes to hold a set session each week, potentially around 11am on a Saturday so parkrunners can join in too

‘I know it’s a random time of year to launch, but there’s going to be no pressure on anyone,’ she said.

‘If the weather’s bad – we can have a coffee morning. If people don’t want to swim, we can have a walk.’
